SKI CAMP 2018!

Ski Camp 2018 at MTU/Houghton and Swedetown/Calumet was phenomenal. Snow storm came the day before camp and left a winter wonderland with beautiful flocked trees and nice temperatures.  Kids (140) and 30 coaches (a number of them college students coming back as alumni to help coach) skated on the 28th at MTU. Some Teams participating were: Rhinelander, Kettle Moraine, Ashwaubenon, Lakeland, Peak Nordic, Wausau United, Wausau Night Gliders, Traverse City, and our host the Houghton Ski Tigers. Pastie party at the HS followed in the evening and everyone slept well after a full day of activity. Saturday the 29th brought a gorgeous drive with the flocked trees on both sides of the road up to Calumet. Classical skiing was on perfect tracks and many of the parents were out skiing in full force as the kids went through their 2nd day of camp! Saturday night was a pizza party for all and kids disappeared to the pool and sauna while parents had beverages and talked through the evening. It’s a wonderful social event and a good place to share ski stories or just get to know each other better. Sunday morning brought the notorious relay race for HS/MS and a Core Race for our youngest and least experienced camp participants. After camp pictures – people took off for home or like the Kresses – stayed for another day of great skiing before coming leaving winter behind us.  It’s always an option – come a day early – stay a day after and enjoy the SNOW!
